This machine featured a massive 16-foot wide cutting swath, which was capable of cutting an entire acre of grass in less than 5 minutes!

In 1949, Joe Oomkes and Sid DeJong formed Joe and Sid Gardeners.

Two European immigrants ready to put their “old country” skills to work, Joe and Sid started by providing services in landscape management to East Grand Rapids area residents. Soon the metropolitan area started to grow and Joe and Sid Gardeners experienced continued success, steadily growing along with it.

Years later, in 1972, Sid’s son Ed became involved full-time in their business. And, in 1979, they decided to change the company name to Tender Lawn Care – a name better reflecting the company’s heartfelt commitment to its residential and commercial clients, its employees, and to the environment.

In 2012, the company remained family-owned as Ed’s son, Jamin, became the new President. Jamin has surrounded himself with a team of talented, knowledgeable, and dedicated colleagues who share the company’s continued commitment to serve our clients. This is done while upholding a culture that is value-driven and promotes honesty, hard work, perseverance, and humility.
